Saint Monica: Feast Day Aug. 27th
Personally, I find Saint Monica to be extremely inspirational. Her perseverance in prayer not only shows a deep faith and dedication, but also illustrates how strong a mother's love is for her child/children. Saint Monica can help teach children to pray constantly, not give up, and accept that all things happen in God's time. When "Googling" how Catholic's can celebrate Saint Monica at home, I found that making homemade soft pretzels can symbolize Saint Monica's prayerful hands as she prayed for her son—the future Saint Augustine—and his conversion to the faith. My husband, toddlers, and I used this pretzel recipe to serve at lunch, and here is how ours turned out (forgive our poor pretzel folding ha ha). There is also a "My Catholic Family" cartoon episode from EWTN about Saint Monica that we watched. Since Saint Augustine's feast day is the day after Saint Monica's this cartoon episode does a great job introducing him as well. I've included the video below. Hope you and your family have a wonderful time Celebrating Saint Monica and Saint Augustine!
