Corpus Christi
Corpus Christi—The celebration of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ celebrates the full divine and true presence of Jesus in the Holy Eucharist—The center of our Catholic faith! What an amazing and holy feast day! Every time we set foot into our parish, we have the opportunity to be in the presence of Jesus with us in the Holy Eucharist. Let that sink in for a minute. Jesus—the Son of God—is present in the tabernacle, and each time we receive him in Holy Communion, we invite His body, soul, and divinity into our hearts! Oh, unfathomable mystery!
I recently watched the documentary I Am With You, from EWTN, which is about Blessed Carlo Acutis and his love for the Holy Eucharist. The passion that Carlo, a youth of fifteen, had for the Eucharist is so inspiring. He said, “People who put themselves before the sun get tanned. People who put themselves before the Eucharist become saints.” What amazing wisdom, belief, and inspiration. Have you ever gone to adoration? Have you ever sat before the Eucharistic Lord in the tabernacle? I challenge you and your family to spend time in the Eucharistic presence of Jesus. It is an experience that will truly inspire and change you.
Lord, open my heart to feel and see you truly present in the Holy Eucharist. Flood my senses with your great mystery, and enkindle in my heart a love for you in the Holy Eucharist, the greatest gift, your true presence, your body, soul, and divinity, here on earth for me and all of humanity. Each time I receive you in Holy Communion, change me, Lord, to become more like you. Amen.
Celebrating with an Activity, Craft and Prayer:
Check out Blessed Carlo Acutis’ website on Eucharistic miraculous. You can open the downloadable posters cataloging all the miracles and read/look at them together. You can also pray the “Stations of the Eucharist” using this version from the website “Aleteia.”To help our children visualize this amazing mystery of the Eucharist, we made monstrance collages. Monstrances are used to display Jesus in the Eucharist for adoration. If you Google "Corpus Christi crafts," numerous images of monstrance collages will come up that can serve as inspiration. We made ours using foil, construction paper, and sparkly foam stickers.
Celebrating with Food:
Today, we served naan bread and grape juice as a snack while talking about what Corpus Christi means. This snack is a great visual for talking about the body and blood of Jesus and then discussing transubstantiation. You can also cut tortillas to look like the Eucharist and then use a butter knife to make a small insertion of a cross on them. We made this for Corpus Christi 2021 and they looked awesome!
