Saint Ephrem: Feast Day June 9th


Saint Ephrem. When my daughter asked me whose saint day it was today and how we were going to celebrate that saint, I honestly had know idea who Saint Ephrem was. After looking him up, I found that Saint Ephrem the Syrian is a Doctor of the Church and was a hymnographer. Life-long-learning—learn something new every day! So, to celebrate Saint Ephrem, we made Syrian Sugar cookies and put music notes on our serving plater. The cookies were delicious with hot tea. Happy feast day Saint Ephrem!

Baptism of the Lord: The Last Day of Christmas  “I am baptizing you with water, for repentance, but the one who is coming after me is mightier than I. I am not worthy to carry his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.” (Matthew 3:11) Today we celebrate the Baptism of the Lord. The Chair of Saint Peter the Apostle: Feast Day Feb. 22 “And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it.” (Matthew 16:18) Today, we celebrate the feast day of Peter's appointment by Christ to govern the Church on earth, and his successors in that role to become the next Vicar of Christ—in simple terms, today's feast day celebrates the institution of the papacy.
